In California, 5 students were sent home from school because they wore red, white, and blue shirts on Cinco De Mayo. The school administration felt it was disrespectful that they wore their patriotic flag shirts on a Mexican holiday.
Um… no disrespect intended to our southern neighbors, but since when is California part of Mexico? I thought it was part of the United States. You know, that country that flies the red, white, and blue with supposed pride? I could see it if I were in Mexico on Cinco de Mayo flying a small American flag and whisling Yankee Doodle Dandy, but here? On US Soil? You can be punished for displaying your national colors? REALLY?
Man, this irks me. It really does. When showing pride in your country become a punishable offense, then something is very, very wrong.
